Deal with it, today, everybody wants a camera (Or maybe just me xD). We not only want a camera, we hope to get a really good image quality, good function, user friendly, and if possible, God-Like camera with low price as possible. That is the wants of the current market. Photography are not for rich people anymore.
Well of course, if the manufacture respond to the market that I mention above, they could pack their bags and close their factory down. So, they respond to the market in another way... Provide you a good (But God-Like), satisfying camera (For casual photographers) with affordable prices. By affordable it is still above 1.5k, please dun wish to get a DSLR with RM 1.20. Go buy yourselves some sweets will you =]
They called it: "Entry Levels", means, not for professional but you at least need some operating knowledge to use or you better get a "Point & Shoot" saves a lot of your money. You see, the label "Categories" for a purpose. Now let me show you some of the famous Entry levels cameras, which would somehow help you, if your main concern is the price tag on the camera:

P/S: The Sony Thingy: Small, Without the lens, you can keep it in you pocket, Sony's "Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera" could be compared with other Entry Levels DSLR, since it is cute, I put it in my list xD
That is the few, I dun want a long long list here, you should check some of this first before considering other because these are the kinda cheap and have quite good feedbacks camera, this is all my point of view, I am truly sorry if it harm you in anyway =]
